The Story of Lassie

I bought Lassie on May 12, 2012 for $200. The breeder was asking $350 but since she was 5 months old and had never been groomed, I was able to negotiate. The breeder had become overwhelmed with leftover puppies from litters for 5 years. She was in an open floor dirt pen with 20 other collies, ranging in age from 5 years old to 5 months old (her and her brother). All the animals were healthy and playful, but very dirty. The breeder loved the dogs and they were all well fed, but there were just too many.

Lassie was so shy when I got her home. I had to pick her up to get her into the house. She was so scared, she slept in our bed that first night, dirt and all. The next day she went to the vet and groomer. She checked out healthy except for a minor eye infection, which was cleared up with antibiotic eye drops.

She and Roscoe, my 7 year old Rat Terrier, 5 at the time, didn’t take long to become best friends - brother and little sister.  With lots of TLC, Lassie has become a beautiful, very sweet, and loving dog. Her intelligence amazes me. She loves everyone she meets, especially our grandchildren. They play with her, brush her, and lead her in the backyard on her leash.

Lassie is truly a blessing in our lives, and we look forward to many years of love and companionship with her.
